TRB Policy Studies
In response to requests from Congress, the executive branch, states, and other sponsors, TRB draws upon the nation’s leading experts in transportation and related fields to assess the technical bases of policy and regulatory decisions across all modes; analyze the potential effects of policy alternatives on mobility, safety, the environment, and the economy; and to review specific research programs and projects. Studies are conducted by independent committees of experts appointed by the National Research Council. Members are selected to provide appropriate expertise and a balance of perspectives. Members serve without compensation. The committee process is open to public scrutiny and comment. Funding is provided by federal agencies, foundations, and other sponsors.
