NIH Trainee Benefits and Compensation

Most trainees will be entitled to many of the benefits that are offered to civil service or Public Health Service employees. These benefits include partial government contribution for health and life insurance, occupational medical services at the National Institutes of Health, compensation for work-related injury, vacation and sick leave, and training at government expense.

Benefits, salaries, and stipends vary depending on the candidate's education, experience, responsibilities, and type of appointment. A detailed compensation and benefit package will be available once an appointment mechanism is determined by NIAID.

For more information on the different research training categories, including links to current stipends, see NIH Training Programs in the Biomedical Sciences.
