New Institutions: Newly established and /or newly chartered de novo institutions that did not previously exist under a different charter.

Business Combination: The combination of two or more financial institutions.

Interim Merger: A combination of two or more financial institutions other than a purchase and assumption transaction between an operating institution and an institution (in organization).

Purchase and Assumption of Branches (or P&A of Branches or PandAs of Branches): The acquisition of certain assets and the assumption of certain deposit liabilities usually associated with specific branches of a financial institution.

Main Office Relocations: The change in location associated with the charter of an institution.

Title Changes: A new name given a financial institution.

Conversions: A change in charter, supervisory agent, insurance status, entity type, regulatory agency, and /or regulatory membership which results in a classification change.

Liquidations/Closings: Financial Institutions which voluntarily liquidate or close.

Trust Powers: The authority to engage in the trust business.

Branch Office Relocation: A change in location of a branch office of an institution.

Office Opening: Established branches of financial institutions.

Office Closing: Branches of financial institutions no longer in existence.

Summary of Changes: Category totals listed by class of an institution.

Quarterly Totals: Totals for the quarter (ending March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31) listed by categories.

START DATE: A beginning month, day and year (mm/dd/yyyy) on the calendar.

END DATE: The last month, day and year (mm/dd/yyyy) on the calendar.

QUARTER DATE: A three month period on a financial calendar usually ending March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.


ADDRESS: The street address (physical location) of the institution.

FDIC CERTIFICATE # (or CERT. NUMBER or CERT #): A unique number assigned by the FDIC that is used for institution identification purposes and for the issuance of FDIC deposit insurance certificates.


CHARTER AUTHORITY : An abbreviation indicating the chartering agency of the institution. Values are listed below.

OCC = Comptroller of the Currency

OTS = Office of Thrift Supervision (This field will show a value of 'OTS' even though the institutions were chartered by the FSLIC prior to August 9, 1989.) OTS End Effective Date: July 21, 2011

SOVER = Foreign Country

STATE = One of the 50 States, Territories or Districts of the U.S.


CLASS: A one or two character abbreviation indicating a major grouping of institutions based on PRIMARY FEDERAL SUPERVISOR, CHARTER, FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM MEMBERSHIP, INSURANCE(1), International Banking Act (IBA) CODE, AND ORGANIZATION TYPE.

N = Insured Commercial Bank, National, Member FRS

SM = Insured Commercial Bank, State, Member FRS

NM = Insured Commercial Bank, State, Not Member FRS

SI = Insured Stock and Mutual Savings Banks

MI = Mutually Insured

EFFECTIVE DATE: The date the transaction became active.

PROCESSED DATE: The date the transaction was entered into the source system.


FDIC SUPERVISORY REGION: The two digit number indicating the FDIC Division that supervises an institution.

FDIC Insured: Does the institution have FDIC Insurance? The FDIC protects depositors of insured institutions against the loss of their deposits in the event of a bank failure (up to the insurance limit).

INSTITUTION NAME: The entire legal name of the institution.

OFFICE NAME: The name of the office or branch.


PRIMARY REGULATOR: Character abbreviation indicating the primary supervisory agency.

FDIC = Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation

FED or FRS = Federal Reserve System

SERVICE TYPE: The code indicates the type of service offered by an office. Full service offices accept deposits, make loans, open/close accounts, have a loan officer on site, have normal hours, and a full time staff. Limited service offices have some, but not all of these features
