Community Health

Community Health involves the study and betterment of the health of biological communities. Though the term "community" may be defined as "people with shared characteristics or something in common that connects them in some way," community health tends to focus on people in specific geographic areas and the factors which affect their health.

Indian Health Service promotes an interdisciplinary approach to promote and provide for community health. A variety of programs, disciplines, strategies and interventions work together to pursue the IHS mission to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level.

For more about the programs and the strategies and interventions they utilize, please see the community health topics on the left.
