WASHINGTON – On Thursday, January 14, 2016, U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Dr. Ernest Moniz will travel to Florida to visit several Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) facilities in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.
Arriving in Florida just days after President Obama highlighted his energy and climate priorities for the final year of the Administration, Secretary Moniz will discuss the importance of infrastructure resiliency in the face of climate change, the role of clean energy in our economy, and the importance of technology innovation in the energy sector. Secretary Moniz will also make a major announcement regarding research and development for America’s power grid.
Secretary Moniz will begin his day in Florida in Fort Lauderdale where he will tour an active FPL project that is hardening energy infrastructure and a substation where flood mitigation improvements have been made to protect the electrical grid from extreme weather. The Secretary will then make his way to FPL’s Systems Operation Center in Miami where he will tour the facility and make remarks. Several parts of the Secretary’s travel will be open to press. Those opportunities are listed below.
