Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee
The Department of Health and Human Services welcomes the eleven members of the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee who were appointed by the U.S. Comptroller General. The Committee was added by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) to promote the development of physician-focused payment models in Medicare. The Committee will meet periodically to provide comments and recommendations to the Secretary of HHS on physician-focused payment models. Members of the Committee are listed below. They are individuals who are nationally recognized for their expertise in physician-focused payment models and related delivery of care.

Jeffrey Bailet, MD, otolaryngologist and President, Aurora Health Care Medical Group; Robert Berenson, MD, Institute Fellow, Urban Institute; Elizabeth Mitchell, President and CEO, Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement; and Kavita Patel, MD, doctor of internal medicine and Nonresident Senior Fellow, the Brookings Institution.

Rhonda M. Medows, MD, Executive Vice President of Population Health, Providence Health & Services; Harold D. Q1 – What is the purpose of the Committee?
A1 -- The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (the “Committee”) was established under Section 101(e) of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA; Pub. L. 114-10). As provided in the statute, the purpose of the Committee is to provide comments and recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Human Services on physician-focused payment models.
Q2 -- When will the Committee be meeting?
A2 – Advance notice of all meetings will be published in the Federal Register. We currently anticipate that the first Committee meeting will be held in early 2016, and that during 2016, the Committee will meet on a quarterly basis. Once the Committee starts receiving payment model proposals (anticipated in early 2017), the frequency of Committee meetings will in large part be driven by the number and complexity of the payment models that have been proposed to them for consideration and evaluation.
Q3 – Where will these meetings be held and can the public attend them?
A3 – The meetings will be held in the Washington DC metro area.
The meetings will be held in the Washington DC metro area. We anticipate that meetings will take place in the DHHS Humphrey Building. However, if circumstances warrant it, other facilities in close proximity to the Humphrey Building may be used for these meetings.
Yes, the public may attend committee meetings as provided under the rules of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). As required under the FACA, we will provide the public with advance notice of the meetings.
