Mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Air Quality Program is to:

Protect and enhance air quality in support of ecosystem management in the National Wildlife Refuge System, in an effort to create a Refuge System free of impacts from human-caused air pollution and promote biological integrity, diversity, and environmental health of the system.

What is being done about the Air Quality?

Protecting air quality, and resources sensitive to air quality, in the National Wildlife Refuge System is a complex task that includes: active research and monitoring about the amount and effects of pollution in FWS areas; advocacy for pollution controls when they are likely to affect FWS refuge areas; and ensuring there is an active advocate of clean healthy air across the National Wildlife Refuge System.
