Zika Virus Disease Outbreak (January 2016-present)
Outbreaks of Zika are occurring in many countries and territories. Zika infection during pregnancy can cause a serious birth defect of the brain called microcephaly, and is linked to other problems in fetuses and infants infected with Zika before birth. CDC is also investigating the link between Zika and Guillain-Barré syndrome. CDC has posted travel notices and is working with partners around the world to better understand and control Zika.
