Public Safety and Fire

Your safety on the public lands is our top priority and we address safety in many ways.

For example, The BLM has a big role in the nation’s interagency comprehensive and complex fire management program that fights fires across all federally administered lands. We also work to address the health and safety hazards that exist on old abandoned mine sites on public lands that are scattered across the West.  Our law enforcement program protects people and public resources -- from assisting in search-and-rescue operations to stopping such crimes as mineral resource theft; hazardous materials dumping; archaeological and paleontological theft; wildland arson; and more.
