Trooper Andrew David Fox
1984 – 2012

The Virginia State Police are grieving the tragic loss of one of our own.  Trooper Andrew D. Fox was struck and killed Friday night (Oct. 5, 2012), while directing traffic in Hanover County. Trooper Fox, 27, was assigned to Pulaski County in the Department’s Area 24 Office in the Wytheville Division. The Tazewell County native was on special assignment in Hanover County.

In lieu of flowers and/or for those wanting to make memorial contributions, the family suggests contributions be made to the Virginia State Police Association Emergency Relief Fund (www.vspa.org) at 6944 Forest Hill Drive, Richmond, VA 23225 or the Police Benevolent Association, www.vapba.org

RICHMOND – Eighty years ago, the General Assembly granted statewide powers of arrest in the Commonwealth forming the foundation of a Virginia Department of State Police. As the Department recognizes this historic anniversary, it also celebrates the addition of 89 new troopers to its ranks with the graduation of the 118th Basic Session on Oct. 19, 2012. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and will be held at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County.

RICHMOND - The Virginia State Police are grieving the tragic loss of a Trooper killed in the line of duty in Hanover County Friday night (Oct. 5, 2012). Trooper Andrew D. Fox was assigned to Pulaski County in Southwest Virginia, but was working a special assignment at the State Fair of Virginia at the time of his death.

ONE DAY ENFORCEMENT OF "OPERATION AIR, LAND AND SPEED" CONCLUDES WITH 3,000 PLUS SUMMONSES AND ARRESTS
News Release No. 21 For Immediate Release: September 24, 2012
RICHMOND – Thousands of traffic violators received citations during a one-day traffic safety program that yielded 3,033 total summonses and arrests as part of Operation Air, Land and Speed. The specialized enforcement initiative took place Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, and included Interstates 81, 95, 64, 66 and 85. It was the first time the traffic safety program has targeted simultaneously this many interstates in the Commonwealth. Troopers patrolled the entire length of each interstate. There were no fatal traffic crashes reported on any of the selected interstates during the entire operation.

RICHMOND – Expect to see an increase of Virginia State Police troopers along every interstate in the Commonwealth on Saturday, September 22, 2012. For the first time, the traffic safety initiative known as Operation Air, Land and Speed will target almost every interstate in the Commonwealth to include Interstates 64, 66, 85, 81 and 95 during the special enforcement operation.

RICHMOND – Virginia State Police today dedicated its new, state-of-the-art driver training facility – the only one of its kind in the Commonwealth - during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Virginia State Police Driver Training Complex is located just outside the Town of Blackstone in Nottoway County. It is a first of its kind for the Virginia State Police and, due to its size, unique design, and topography, unlike any other public safety driver training course in the state.
