Regional Director

Welcome to Region 32 of the National Labor Relations Board. We conduct elections, investigate charges of unfair labor practices, and protect the rights of workers to act together, serving parts of California and Nevada from our regional office in Oakland. If you have questions or wish to file a charge or petition for election, please visit our office or call and ask for the Information Officer on duty. We can arrange to have someone speak with you in the language of your choice. We are also happy to provide speakers and materials to promote a greater understanding of the National Labor Relations Act.

News From the Region

The telephone numbers for all Region 32 staff members will change effective July 1, 2016.  The main office number will remain the same (510-637-3300) even after July 1st.   If you need to contact a particular employee of Region 32 starting July 1st  and do not have his/her new telephone number, you will need to call the main office number listed above and ask to speak to the Information Officer of the day who will be able to provide you the new telephone number.  The old and new telephone numbers for Region 32 staff members

Regions 32 and 20 will conduct a joint meeting for outside practitioners on the new Representation Case Rules on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be conducted in Conference Room H on the Fifth Floor of the North Tower of the Oakland Federal Building that is located at 1301 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94612. If anyone has questions about this meeting you may contact Region 32 Assistant to the Regional Director Cynthia Rence.

National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. announced the appointment of Valerie T. Hardy-Mahoney as the Regional Attorney of the NLRB’s Regional office in Oakland, California (Region 32). In her new position, Ms. Hardy-Mahoney will assist Regional Director George Velastegui in the administration and enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act in portions of northern California and the northern half of Nevada.

The Board invites the filing of briefs to afford the parties and interested amici the opportunity to address the Board’s joint employer standard, as raised in Browning-Ferris Industries (Case 32-RC-109684). 

Among the issues raised by the Board is whether the parties and amici believe the Board should adhere to its existing joint employer standard or adopt a new standard. 

Briefs from the parties and interested amici are due on or before June 26, 2014.

National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. announced their selection of George Velastegui to serve as Regional Director of the Agency’s Region 32 office in Oakland, California. Mr. Velastegui will be responsible for enforcement of the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in the jurisdiction of Region 32, which services portions of northern California and the northern half of Nevada.
