Neuromodulatory circuits and motivated behavior

Genetic variation, internal states, and environmental cues converge on shared neuronal circuits to regulate behaviors. In the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans, an anatomical wiring diagram provides an essential map for innate behaviors, such as preferences for specific stimuli.
