An ideal candidate will have independent research experience in the development of imaging agents, have significant experience applying for and reviewing grant applications in biomedical imaging and bioengineering and be an objective advocate and focal point for imaging agent research at the NIH. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of a growing portfolio of research grants in this area, to inform and make recommendations to NIBIB staff and broadly promote this area of scientific research.

Biomedical Imaging Informatics (one vacancy)

NIBIB is looking for a program director with responsibilities for stimulating, planning, advising, directing, and evaluating program activities for a portfolio of research grants and contracts in the area of biomedical imaging informatics. He/she is expected to have knowledge and/or expertise in the storage, retrieval, sharing and optimal use of biomedical imaging information, data, and knowledge for problem solving and decision making. An ideal candidate will have independent research experience in biomedical imaging informatics, have significant experience applying for and reviewing grant applications in biomedical image processing and be an objective advocate and focal point for biomedical imaging informatics research at the NIH. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of a growing portfolio of research grants in this area, to inform and make recommendations to NIBIB staff and broadly promote this area of scientific research.

The biomedical imaging informatics program supports the design and development of algorithms for post-acquisition image processing and analysis. These algorithms include methods for image segmentation, image registration, atlas generation, morphometry measurement, and the determination of function and structure from medical images. Also supported by this program is the development of theoretical models and analysis tools to evaluate and improve the perception of medical images. This may include diagnostic-performance evaluation, assessment of computer-aided diagnosis technologies, statistical models for evaluation of observer performance, and assessment of observer variability. Finally, this program supports research in the optimization of image display for improved detection.

Job vacancies close Monday December 5, 2016.
