Providing "a financial safety net for America's farmers and ranchers to sustain economically viable agricultural production" is the number goal in FSA's Strategic Plan for 2016-2018 (PDF, 5.08 MB).  And provide a financial safety net the Agency did!  Fiscal Year 2016 was amazing!  The Farm Service Agency made and guaranteed a total of 39,650 loans.  Just as our mission statement says, "We keep America's agricultural growing."

 FY 2016 Funding Accomplishments:

• A new Agency record was set!  Obligations of direct and Guaranteed Operating and Farm Ownership loan funds totaled $6.3 Billion, the highest in Agency history.
• Obligations of Direct Operating Loans was the highest since Fiscal Year 1986 - $1.3 Billion
• Highest level of Direct Farm Ownership loan obligations - $1.016 Billion
• Highest level of Guaranteed Farm Ownership loan obligations - Over $2.4 Billion
• Highest level of Direct and Guaranteed loan assistance provided to historically underserved farmers and ranchers in the Agency's history.
• Highest level of Direct and Guaranteed loan assistance provided to Beginning Farmers in the Agency's history.

Of particular interest to note is that the figures for Direct Farm Ownership loan applications represent loan applications processed and approved exclusively in Fiscal Year 2016.  There was no carryover of approved, unfunding applications from the previous fiscal year (2015).

FY 2015 Funding Accomplishments:

• The obligation of Direct and Guaranteed Operating and Farm Ownership loan funds were the highest ever in the Agency's history, exceeding the record set 30 years ago in Fiscal Year 1985.  Total Obligations reached $5.6 billion.
• Direct Farm Ownership loan obligations reached $1 billion, another Agency record.  These obligations represent direct Farm Ownership applications received and approved during the same fiscal year; there was no carryover of approved, unfunded loan applications carried into FY 2015 from the previous fiscal year.
• Guaranteed Farm Ownership obligations in Fiscal Year 2015 reached over $2 billion, the highest level in Agency history.
• Fiscal Year 2015 saw the highest level of Direct and Guaranteed loan assistance to Historically Underserved and Women farmers and ranchers in Agency history.
• Loan assistance to Beginning Farmers in both Direct and Guaranteed funding reached the highest level in Agency history.
