Job Summary: This is a Student Trainee position under the Pathways Internship Program. As a Civil Engineering intern you will serve as a member of a Volpe team supporting senior engineers. You will be given a wide range of tasks and developmental assignments meant to enhance your engineering skills and professional knowledge of project management as well as the development, evaluation, and operation of transportation systems. Positions are located in Cambridge, MA.

The ideal candidate for this position is pursuing a degree in professional engineering, preferably Civil Engineering, Construction/Industrial Engineering Management, or Geomatics, and has a desire to study highway, rail or other transportation engineering systems and structures related to safety, performance or the environment.

Flexibility, creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to take initiative will help you to find—or to create—the projects that interest you the most. The employee works as part of a project team, and is given specific tasks to perform, including data gathering and data analysis using a variety of specified analytical techniques. Potential types of projects to be supported include: Program, project and operational test evaluations; Industry and cost studies; Benefit cost studies supporting regulatory action; and Forecasting.

The ideal candidate for this position is receiving an undergraduate degree in economics and enjoys and is good at applied research. We believe in revealed preference.
