Communication Sites

A wide range of communication facilities and related technologies (e.g., radio, television, cellular, microwave, etc.) may be located on public land.

The BLM has established a rental schedule, updated annually, for communication uses located in a facility authorized by a BLM right-of-way grant or lease. Rental amounts are based on the type of communication use and the population of the area served. For example, in 2016 a TV broadcast use serving Los Angeles, CA (population of 5 million plus) would have a rent of $70,009.73, while that same use serving Casper, WY (population of 50,000 to 99,999) would be assessed $4,667.31.
