We do this through routine and emergency services to Americans at our embassies and consulates around the world. We serve our fellow citizens during their most important moments – births, deaths, disasters, arrests, and medical emergencies.

About the Assistant Secretary

The Office of Assistant Secretary is the face of Consular Affairs, managing the worldwide consular function, ensuring responsiveness and efficient consular services abroad.

Organization

The Bureau of Consular Affairs formulates and implements policy relating to immigration and consular services and ensures responsive and efficient provision of consular services overseas. Our Eight Directorates are led by The Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs.

Budget, Performance & Planning

The Department's Congressional Budget Justification outlines the resources needed to help achieve key national priorities while building the foundation for lasting global progress

Speeches & Testimony

State Department leaders frequently testify to congressional committees regarding many subjects within their area of responsibility. They also speak on these topics to audiences throughout the country and the world.
