The Office of Head Start 1st National Birth to Five Leadership Institute will provide opportunities for leadership development through the promotion of effective strategies for achieving school readiness and continuous program improvement. While all Head Start staff have a leadership role to play in achieving positive outcomes for children, families, and communities, this Institute is designed for staff and parent leaders. Programs are encouraged to select a team of leaders who, after the Institute, will be prepared to lead the way for 2011 and beyond.
 
Who should come?
  •  Current and emerging leaders, both staff and parents, who are in decision-making roles
  • Head Start leaders from all system and service areas
  • National, Regional, and State Head Start Association leaders
  • Open to all grantees and delegate agencies serving birth-to-five and to all program options
What to expect?
  •  Focus on practical strategies for leadership in the context of Head Start systems and services
  •  Develop individual and program leadership skills for parents and staff
  • Expand knowledge on mentoring future leaders and on succession planning
  • Gain strategies for knowledge sharing in your programs and communities
What is the Pre-Institute?
 A Pre-Institute will be offered for one full day on Sunday, October 2, 2011, prior to the Institute.
 
The Pre-Institute is available in three separate tracks to the following groups:
  • American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Head Start and Early Head Start programs
  • Migrant and Seasonal Head Start (MSHS) programs
  • New Directors of Head Start and Early Head Start programs (less than 3 years in the position)
