HUD’s Office of Native American Programs sponsors several tuition free trainings and workshops for Tribal Leaders, Tribal housing staff, Tribal housing board members, housing professionals, community, and nonprofit partners. Listed below are current opportunities available. Visit the Calendar of Events for current schedule.

NAHASDA Essentials Training

Comprehensive introduction to the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA). Participants will become familiar with all program activities, including rental housing, homebuyer programs, rehabilitation, and housing and crime prevention services. Other major topics that will be covered include the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) formula, eligible program participants, income verifications, other federal requirements, financial management and program administration.

Procurement for NAHASDA Training

Training addresses both management and construction development procurement. Training topics will range from careful preplanning and the basics of purchasing to unique factors in tribal housing purchasing, the practical how-to’s of procurement planning and policy development

This course will offer participants a clear path to attracting partners and private investors to invest in Indian Country. Sustainable economies supported by a mix of finance resources are critical to developing long-term solutions to Indian Country housing challenges.

Environmental Review Training

Training provides IHBG recipients the skills to successfully carry out an environmental review. Training includes detailed instruction on meeting the legislative and regulatory requirements of environmental reviews, assistance in devising standard procedures for conducting and documenting an environmental review, & key steps in the environmental review process.

IHP/APR Grantee Training

Participants at this training will receive step-by-step instruction on how to successfully complete the newly combined IHP/APR form. In addition to a walk-through of the new form, participants will also receive guidance on the development, planning, and reporting processes and requirements. All grantees are encouraged to attend this training.
