241,660 hectares under improved natural resource management

“Improved natural resource management” includes activities that promote enhanced management of natural resources for one or more objectives, such as conserving biodiversity, sustaining soil or water resources, mitigating climate change, and/or promoting sustainable agriculture. This is essential for preserving biodiversity and reducing the impact of climate change.
19,000 hectares in areas of biological significance showed improved biophysical conditions
A hectare is equal to 10,000 square meters. Areas are rated on a set of criteria and then prioritized according to their biological significance, which helps USAID decide where to focus its work. Improved biophysical conditions are demonstrated where there is data showing improvement in one or more natural resources in the area over time.
13,555 people with increased economic benefits derived from sustainable natural resource management and conservation
Increased economic benefits are increases in economic earnings or consumption due to sustainable management or conservation of natural resources. When people receive tangible economic benefits from natural resource management or conservation, they are more likely to value and support these activities into the future, well after the project ends, thus creating a sustainable impact.
3,096 people trained in natural resources management and/or biodiversity conservation
Natural resources and biodiversity conservation includes managing natural resources in ways that maintain their long-term viability and preserve their potential to meet the needs of present and future generations. Training includes sessions in which participants are educated according to a defined curriculum and set learning objectives in resource management and conservation.

Policies, laws, agreements and regulations include those developed and formally endorsed by governmental, nongovernmental, civil society, and private sector stakeholders to address resource management. Sustainable natural resource management includes enhanced management of natural resources for one or more objectives, such as conserving biodiversity, sustaining soil or water resources, mitigating climate change, or promoting sustainable agriculture.

This is essential for preserving biodiversity and reducing impact of climate change.
60,397 stakeholders with increased capacity to adapt to the impacts of climate variability and change

1,841 people trained in global climate change
Through workshops and trainings, USAID has worked with community groups, mayors, and local government representatives to help identify climate change threats, and to determine what adaptation measures, such as restoration and protection of critical grasslands and forests, will reduce their vulnerability.

105,432 micro, small, and medium enterprises received business development services

Micro= 1-5 employees; Small= 6-50 employees and medium= 51-100 employees. Services may include, among other things, business planning, procurement, technical support in production techniques, quality control and marketing, micro-enterprise loans, etc. Clients may be involved in agro-processing, community forestry, input suppliers, or other small businesses. 
61,517 producers implemented risk-reducing practices or actions to improve resilience to climate change

There is strong scientific evidence that agricultural producers involved in sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fishing, and other areas of natural resources can mitigate the effects of climate change by using appropriate management practices or implementing measures that reduce the risks of climate change impacts. For example, risk-reducing management practices in agriculture and livestock might include changing the exposure or sensitivity of crops (switching crops, using a greenhouse, or changing the cropping calendar); soil management practices that reduce rainwater run-off and increase infiltration; changing grazing practices; or adjusting the management of other aspects of the system.
30,173 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) received access to bank loans

Micro= 1-5 employees; Small= 6-50 employees and medium= 51-100 employees. To be counted an MSME must have received U.S. Government assistance and have accessed bank loans or private equity. The lack of access to financial capital is frequently cited as a major impediment to the development of MSMEs, thus helping MSMEs access finances is likely to increase investment and the value of output.
