Here is a list of current grant solicitations in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Additionally, some Federal agencies have specific web pages for nanotechnology funding opportunities. You can also find a variety of Government programs on our Funding Opportunities page.

This page is updated weekly, but for a full list of all available Federal grants visit www.grants.gov, as well as Fed Biz Opps.gov. As a note, solicitations are often worded generally and the technological tools to be employed, whether micro-, nano- or macro-scale, are not specified. Looking broadly into areas of interest—for instance, toxin removal or semiconducting materials—is often the best approach.  Dates below are deadline dates.

DoD: Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare Applied Research and Advanced Technology Development [ONR BAA 13-004 ]

The overall goal of this solicitation is to foster new developments in Science and Technology which may ultimately lead to future operational capabilities beyond those represented by current acquisition programs and requirements.

USDA: Agriculture and Food Research Initiative -- Foundational Program [[USDA-NIFA-AFRI-003958]]

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) established the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) to make competitive grants for fundamental and applied research, education, and extension to address food and agricultural sciences.

NSF: Biosensing [PD-13-7909 ]

The Biosensing Program supports fundamental research in engineering areas related to: Novel sensitive, discriminative, low cost, and easy to operate biosensing systems.

NSF: Process and Reaction Engineering [PD-13-1403]

The Process and Reaction Engineering program supports fundamental and applied research on rates and mechanisms of important classes of catalyzed and uncatalyzed chemical reactions as they relate to the design, production, and application of catalysts, chemical processes, biochemical processes, and specialized materials;

NSF: Biophotonics [PD-13-7236]

Biophotonics applies photonics technology to the fields of medicine, biology and biotechnology. Basic research and innovation in photonics that is very fundamental in science and engineering is needed to lay the foundation for new technologies beyond those that are mature and ready for application in medical diagnostics and therapies.

NSF: Interfacial Processes and Thermodynamics [PD-13-1414]

The Interfacial Processes and Thermodynamics (IPT) program supports fundamental research in engineering areas related to: Interfacial phenomena; Mass transport phenomena; Molecular thermodynamics.

DoD: Armament Technology Broad Agency Announcement [BAA-RWK-2013-0001]

For purposes of this announcement, research is defined to be scientific study and experimentation directed at increasing knowledge and understanding in relation to long term national security needs. It is an enhancement to related exploratory and advanced development programs.

DoD: Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Broad Agency Announcement [W912HZ-13-BAA-01]

The ERDC is responsible for conducting research in the broad fields of hydraulics, dredging, coastal engineering, instrumentation, oceanography, remote sensing, geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering, soil effects, vehicle mobility, self-contained munitions, military engineering, and geophysics.

DoD: Fundamental Research to Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction [HDTRA1-09-14-FRCWMD-BAA]

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) safeguards America and its allies from weapons of mass destruction and provides capabilities to reduce, eliminate and counter the threat and effects from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosives.

DoD: Advances in Bioscience for Airmen Performance [BAA 09-02-RH]

Research is sought primarily in the following four technical areas: 1) Applied Biotechnology, 2) Biobehavioral Performance, 3) Biomechanics, and 4) Counterproliferation. The purpose of this BAA is to augment core research activities and facilities to provide radically new military capabilities that improve warfighter performance and combat effectiveness.
