County Data Resources

DATA2020 includes national data for all Healthy People objectives. You can also find state-level data and state-level mapping functionality for some objectives. Be sure to check back often—we will continue to add state-level data and maps for objectives as they become available. Learn more about Healthy People 2020 data and objectives

To supplement DATA2020 national data resources, HealthyPeople.gov provides links to data resources that track data related to Healthy People 2020 objectives at the county level.

Data subject matter experts have reviewed each resource on this list to ensure that it meets quality standards. 

Health Indicators Warehouse

Some Healthy People 2020 objectives have county-level data available at the Health Indicators Warehouse (HIW), a comprehensive source for data on national, state, and county health indicators. Note that the HIW site began a retirement phase on June 30, 2016—it will remain available for use in its current state until April 15, 2017, but will no longer be updated.

Search for data related to Healthy People 2020 objectives:
Go to the HIW and type in a keyword or the objective number you want to find (for example, heart attack or HDS-16). To find objective numbers, click the topic area you're interested in and view the Objectives tab.
 
 
Find Healthy People 2020 indicators with county data: 
Go to the HIW and find the indicator you’re interested in. Then click the Table or Advanced Table tab and select a state and county from the drop-down menus.

County Health Rankings

The County Health Rankings (CHR) program measures the health of nearly all counties in the Nation. In addition to rankings, CHR includes robust data and mapping tools at the state and county levels. CHR is a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
