Female VO: The possibility of losing your home to foreclosure is terrifying.
What’s just as scary?
Con artists who prey on homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage.
How can you spot a scam?
You know you’re dealing with a scam artist if they guarantee to save your home, promise to stop a foreclosure, or tell you to stop paying your mortgage company and pay them instead.
If you’re in danger of foreclosure:
Contact your mortgage company directly and get housing counseling as soon as you can.
If you need help, call a housing counselor through the Homeownership Preservation Foundation at 1.888.995.HOPE. That’s 1.888.995.HOPE.
It's scary knowing you could lose your home. Good thing free help is available. For more tips on avoiding mortgage scams, check out ftc.gov.
