Since the Iran Deal was reached on July 15, 2015, we’ve received thousands of questions about it -- in-person, over the phone, and on social media -- from reporters and citizens alike.

We gave six of your most commonly asked questions to U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz, a nuclear physicist and one of the deal’s chief negotiators. In the video above, he answers candidly in his office (yes, the stacks of paper really are that high) with no script or teleprompter.

The paper in his hands includes only the following questions:

  1. “I don’t trust Iran, how can I trust this deal?”
  2. “How can you be sure Iran is actually complying with the deal, and not just offering promises?”
  3. “What if Iran cheats?”
  4. “Why are we letting Iran do anything nuclear at all?”
  5. “Why is the deal temporary?”
  6. “Why didn’t you get a better deal?”

Secretary Moniz’s answers are as thorough as you’d expect from an expert, so take seven minutes to learn about the Iran Deal and how it is working in practice.
