Large fire activity was reported in the Southern Area this week. The Reverend Bill Road fire in North Carolina and the Parker fire in Arkansas are both 99 percent contained.

Weather: Rain and snowfall totals will continue to mount across California and the Pacific Northwest entering the weekend as another strong, wet system moves inland from the Pacific Ocean. By Saturday, the Mountains across Arizona and New Mexico could pick up needed snowfall as well as the system quickly moves toward the Southeast by Sunday. Elsewhere, conditions should be mostly dry across the CONUS through Sunday. Late Sunday, another moist System will move into California and Nevada bringing more mountain snow and valley rain, while the Northern Rockies receive fresh snow in the mountains. A warming and drying trend will begin across the plains late Monday as a high pressure ridge develops in the wake of a winter storm that is expected to impact New England into early Wednesday. Dry conditions will return to the West Coast late in the week as a strong ridge of high pressure develops over California and the Pacific Northwest.
