Health programs in Egypt increase the skills of health care workers, improve infectious disease detection and response, strengthen maternal and child health, and combat malnutrition.

USAID'S HEALTH PROGRAMS IN EGYPT AIM TO:

  • Improve the quality of and access to family planning and reproductive health services;
  • Support HIV/AIDS care programs for at-risk children and other high-risk populations;
  • Increase access to quality maternal and child health programs; and 
  • Expand water and sanitation services.

During FY 2011, Egypt underwent a revolution and transition toward a democratic republic. The revolution directly and indirectly impacted our activities in Egypt. Host-country counterparts shifted.  The U.S. worked to ensure that our programs were responding to the emerging needs expressed by Egyptians in the immediate aftermath of the revolution.
