The Deliverables:

Interns will spend the first week of their assignment working with their mentor to outline their work scope and attending safety briefings and onboarding courses. For the next several weeks, the mentor will provide considerable program assistance and guidance to the intern. In addition to regular activities, interns are invited to attend weekly seminars, tours and community events in order to assist with career development. The intern is expected to submit a final project, which can be completed through a variety of mediums - a traditional poster, electronic presentation or video, model, etc.

 

The Process:

Through this single application process, you are considered for all internship projects that align with your responses. Mentors will make direct contact with students who meet their project qualifications and they will share the specific details of the project at that time. On average, INL plans for approximately 300 internships each year. Most internships provide flexibility with start and end dates to account for varying university term schedules. Work Location: Idaho Falls and/or Site Facilities. Students must be willing and able to travel to work locations (approximately 50 miles west of Idaho Falls).

Participates in the development and maintenance of custom code used to analyze network traffic and proprietary protocols, develops attack and defense methodology and code on high risk computer networks. Develops technical solutions for information operations and analysis related to national security topics, intrusion analysis, systems and vulnerabilities, network security, advanced analytic tools and data visualization techniques. Works with peers and mentors/develops as a junior engineers to identify security issues of existing platforms and applications.

MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.   

The MFC Safety and Compliance Division Director serves as the line manager and ensures execution and improvement for the following areas; radiological controls, quality assurance, environmental compliance, and occupational safety and health, all in support of the research focused on nuclear science and technology.  The successful candidate will manage an organization of approximately 100 staff, direct the technical efforts to improve Safety & Compliance functions and develop innovative solutions which meet requirements, control hazards and risk and influences the regulatory climate to support mission and operational needs.
