The United States Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva is America’s largest overseas multilateral diplomatic post.  The Mission handles all dealings and communications with the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, as well as with the  150 plus other countries that also maintain permanent missions to the United Nations in Geneva. Geneva is home to over 40 major international organizations including the World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, World Intellectual Property Organization, International Telecommunication Organization, International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and more.

Over 100 environmental organizations, both intergovernmental and non-governmental make their home here, including the Nobel-Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  The multilateral role of the Mission in Geneva dealing with many countries is separate from the bilateral diplomacy of the U.S. Embassy in Bern, which handles relations between the U.S. government and the government of Switzerland.

Geneva is frequently the site of bilateral and multilateral negotiations on a variety of security, economic and political issues.  The United States has four Ambassadors in Geneva.
