Office of Minority Health

The Office of Minority Health works through the following committees and working groups to coordinate Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) efforts to eliminate health disparities and advance health equity:

Advisory Committee on Minority Health : Advises the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health on ways to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations, and on the development of goals and program activities within the Office of Minority Health

American Indian and Alaska Native Health Research Advisory Council (HRAC) : addresses health disparities in Indian Country by supporting collaborative research efforts between HHS and tribal partners

Federal Collaboration on Health Disparities Research (FCHDR) : Engages a wide range of federal agencies in cross-agency research partnerships to promote more coordinated efforts that target health improvement in populations disproportionately affected by disease, injury and/or disability

Federal Interagency Health Equity Team (FIHET) : Fosters communications and activities of the National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities within federal agencies and their partners, and increases efficiency and effectiveness of policies and programs to end health disparities

HHS Health Disparities Council: Serves as the venue to share information, leverage HHS investments, coordinate HHS activities, reduce program duplication and track progress on the strategies and actions of the HHS Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities

HHS Promotores de Salud Initiative Steering Committee : Provides leadership and guidance, in collaboration with the Federal Workgroup, in the development and implementation of the HHS Promotores de Salud/Community Health Workers Initiative focused on Latino/Hispanic populations

HHS Workgroup on Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Health Issues: Works to improve communication, coordination, agency policies, programs and evaluations that impact the health, health care, human services and wellbeing of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities

National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR) Interagency Workgroup: Provided advice and comments on draft definitions and measures, and identified new data sources and measures for inclusion in the National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR), a broad set of performance measures that can be used to monitor the nation's progress toward improved health care quality for all Americans
