Esther George took office on October 1, 2011, as the ninth president and chief executive officer of the Tenth District Federal Reserve Bank, at Kansas City. In 2013, she serves as a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee. 

Ms. George was born in St. Joseph, Missouri in January, 1958. She earned a B.S.B.A. in business administration from Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., and an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the Stanford University Executive Program. 

Ms. George joined the Bank in 1982 and served as a commissioned bank examiner until 1995, when she was named to the Bank's official staff. She has held numerous leadership positions at the Bank within its research support, public affairs, and human resources functions. She served as first vice president of the Bank from August 2009 until her appointment as president. 

In January 2009, she was named executive vice president in charge of the Division of Supervision and Risk Management, a division she had led as senior vice president since 2001. In that position, she was responsible for the supervision and regulation of the District's 170 state chartered member banks and nearly 1,000 bank and financial holding companies, as well as the Bank's discount window and risk management functions. She is a former chair of the Federal Reserve System's Community Banking Organizations Management Group. 

In 2009, Ms. George served for several months at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., as acting director of the Board's Division of Banking Supervision and Regulation. 

Ms. George's experience in international central banking issues includes presentations at the Bank for International Settlement's Financial Stability Institute programs in Lima, Peru; Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.; and Singapore. She also has served as the Tenth District's lead officer for international partnership programs involving the central banks of Morocco, Iraq, and Malawi. 

Ms. George is married to Kevin George, they have a daughter and a son, both of whom attend colleges in Missouri.
