The Federal Reserve Board provides students avenues of opportunity for career success. The Board’s Avenues Internship Program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers in economics, finance and accounting, information systems, law, and other areas. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge needed in a competitive global job market. Paid and unpaid internships are available.

Economic Research Divisions
Information Technology
The Division of Information Technology provides a broad range of automation, telecommunications, and statistical services to the Board. College students who have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior years and who are majoring in computer science, economics, business administration, finance, or a related discipline are encouraged to apply for summer internships. Public Policy
Individuals selected for positions in the Board's Division of Consumer and Community Affairs (DCCA) work alongside industry experts and brilliant analysts. Students have the opportunity to apply their quantitative skills on projects in financial and nonfinancial areas, community development, policy and research, technology development, consumer compliance supervision, and consumer laws and regulations.

Finance and Accounting
The Board selects undergraduate and graduate students to work in its Divisions of Reserve Bank Operations and Payment Systems (RBOPS) and Banking Supervision and Regulation (BS&R). Assignments in RBOPS deal with operational policy. Students assigned to BS&R analyze the financial condition of domestic and foreign banking organizations and process applications filed by these financial institutions. In addition to opportunities in RBOPS and BS&R, there are other opportunities in the Board’s Division of Financial Management (DFM) and Office of Inspector General (OIG). Students assigned to OIG will have the opportunity to learn how to conduct independent and objective audits, inspections, evaluations, investigations, and other reviews related to the programs and operations of the Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Information Systems
Students selected for positions in Information Systems work in various divisions around the Board. Assignments include creating public and intranet web pages and assisting application developers in program maintenance, design, coding, and information systems support.

Law
Several of the Board's divisions have attorneys who work on challenging and significant legal issues related to commercial, corporate, antitrust, administrative, and banking law. Students have the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of these fields. Assignments may include drafting, amending, and interpreting regulations and implementing federal consumer legislation. Applicants must be candidates for a law degree from an accredited law school.

The Board has various other internships that attract students in disciplines of business administration, public affairs, computer science, engineering, communications, and other related areas. Assignments will vary per internship experience.

Employment in the Board's Student Programs is granted to U.S. citizens. Candidates are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement; a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0; recommendations; and completed coursework in relevant areas of study. Generally, one-year assignments or summer-only opportunities are available. Other assignment lengths may also be considered. Undergraduate students may be invited back for a period during their graduate program if requested by their host division.
