Height Modernization

Height Modernization

The National Height Modernization Program enables access to accurate, reliable, and consistent heights. Elevation information contributes to informed decision making and impacts a wide range of important activities including mapping and charting, flood risk determination, transportation, land use and ecosystem management. Visit our Web pages to learn more about the Program.

Height Modernization Program National Plan

The National Height Modernization Program has developed a strategic plan (available online) to help achieve the program's goals and priorities. Basic elements of Height Modernization support NGS's vision of a modernized geospatial reference frame and aim to prepare the user community before, during, and after implementation of the new vertical datum. In these ways, the Height Modernization Plan is closely aligned with the current NGS Ten-Year Plan (available online).

Height Modernization Regional Coordination

Height Modernization has a strong history of local and grassroots support, and today’s partners are collaborating and leveraging their resources to create stronger regional networks across the country. Height Modernization Regional groups organize and sponsor a variety of activities to help complete projects and reach stakeholders across state borders. Visit regional Web pages to learn more about these efforts.
