Logo for Presidential Champions Presidential Champions, a program of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition since 2003, is a physical activity awards program designed to motivate individuals to make regular physical activity a permanent part of a healthy, active lifestyle.

The program is all about motivating yourself to be physically active – logging your activities, and earning points as you do it. It’s a great program for youth (ages six and older) or adults who are already regularly active, or a great next step for those who have completed the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA+) and are looking for a long-term program.

In January 2017, the Presidential Champions program re-launched on SuperTracker, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food and activity tracking tool. Instructions on how to get started, program goals, and awards are provided below.

Individuals who participated in the program on the President’s Challenge website before August 2016 can follow an easy two-step process to resume earning points towards awards. Instructions on how to begin this process are available on SuperTracker.

How to Participate

Navigate to Presidential Champions on SuperTracker: https://www.supertracker.usda.gov/PresidentialChampions.aspx

Anyone ages six and up is automatically participating in Presidential Champions. You can check your current program point total and award status by visiting SuperTracker’s Physical Activity Tracker. As a bonus, all physical activities you logged in the Physical Activity Tracker since August 10, 2016 have already been added to your point total. If you missed any recent activity, go back and log your activity to receive those points.

Logging physical activity in the Physical Activity Tracker is easy to do:

  • Step 1: Log in to SuperTracker and open the Physical Activity Tracker.
  • Step 2: Type in the name of your completed physical activity in the search box and click ‘Go.’
  • Step 3: Select the physical activity and intensity level that most appropriately matches what you completed.
  • Step 4: Enter the duration of minutes that you participated in that physical activity.
  • Step 5: Select the days in which you completed that physical activity.

Presidential Champions also allows you to import physical activity from your Fitbit, or manually enter your steps walked each day.

Points & Goals

Points are awarded based on the duration and intensity of the activity performed. The point formula uses metabolic equivalent data from the Compendium of Physical Activities by Ainsworth et al.

Use the search feature on SuperTracker’s Physical Activity Tracker to find your favorite activities. If you can’t find your activity, use an activity that is similar and enter the duration in number of minutes.

Earning points is cumulative and there’s no time limit to reach your next award. Once you reach Platinum, you can repeat the program and keep growing your overall point total.

  • Bronze: 40,000 points
  • Silver: 90,000 points
  • Gold: 160,000 points
  • Platinum: 1,000,000 points
