Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and Analysis

The modeling portion of this program supports mathematical models and computational algorithms with potential clinical or biomedical applications, including multi-scale modeling, modeling at or above the cellular level, and modeling at subcellular level to support technology development in other program areas related to the NIBIB mission. Research includes mathematical, statistical, transport, network, population, mechanical, electrical and electronic models applied to a broad range of biomedical fields.

Dr. Peng chairs the Interagency Modeling and Analysis Group (IMAG).

The simulation portion of this program supports the development of simulation technology for training and education in clinical practice and biomedical research, and simulation algorithms for understanding and prediction of health and disease; and simulations designed to reduce medical errors and increase human safety.

The analysis portion of this program supports the development novel theoretical, of mathematical, statistical and signal processing methods for the analysis of complex biomedical systems, clinical diagnosis and patient monitoring. This program also supports the development of intelligent algorithms and software for the control of medical devices and the prediction of physiological signals and human behavior.
