Regional Methane Emissions May Be Double What We Thought
January 18th, 2017Emissions of methane — a potent climate-warming gas — may be roughly twice as high as officially estimated for the Bay Area. Most of the emissions come from biological sources, such as landfills, but natural gas leakage is also an important source, according to a new study by ETA’s Marc Fischer and Seongeun Jeong. More>

Lab Artificial Photosynthesis Research Highlighted in Media
January 18th, 2017A recent Technology Review story on research into artificial photosynthesis quoted the Lab’s Ian Sharp, and noted the work being done at the Lab’s Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP). MoneyInc.com also noted work at JCAP by Peidong Yang, and Chris and Michelle Chang in its list of top five new energy sources currently under development.

Kubiak Named Deputy Director of Operations
January 18th, 2017Director Witherell has named Glenn Kubiak Deputy Director of Operations. Kubiak’s previous title was Associate Lab Director and Chief Operating Officer. Witherell said the change was made “to align his title with the scope of his job and the way the central leadership team operates.” This structure was in place in years past.
