GSA’s Presidential Transition Teams


To support the orderly transition of executive branch operations, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has established four Presidential transition teams.  Each team is tasked with performing the requirements of transition-focused legislation.

Presidential Transition Support Team

The GSA Presidential Transition Support Team (PTST) exists for the purpose of supporting the incoming administration. The team is tasked with providing a full complement of transition services to the Pre-Election eligible candidates and the Office of the President-elect and Vice-President-elect. This team is also responsible for coordinating Appointee Orientation to prospective Presidential Appointees, as directed by the President-elect.

Internal Transition Team

The GSA Internal Transition Team exists for the purpose of facilitating the agency’s internal preparations as it relates to the Presidential transition. The team is tasked with coordinating the development of briefing materials in preparation for incoming administration agency reviews. This team also supports incoming and outgoing political appointees; ensuring individuals are adequately prepared for their new role in, or their exit from, the agency.

Inaugural Support Team

The GSA Inaugural Support Team (IST) exists for the purpose of supporting inaugural activities during the Inauguration phase of the Presidential transition. The team is tasked with providing a full suite of services to the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC), the Joint Force Headquarters – National Capital Region (JFHQ-NCR), National Park Service (NPS), D.C. Government, Department of Homeland Security/Federal Protective Service (DHS/FPS) and other government agencies.

Outgoing Transition  Team

The GSA Outgoing Transition Team exists for the purpose of supporting the outgoing administration. The team is tasked with providing necessary services and facilities at the request of the outgoing President for 180 days following the expiration of his/her Presidential term on Inauguration Day.
