Papua New Guinea

The United States and Papua New Guinea (PNG) meet bilaterally and through their mutual membership in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Additionally, USTR has visited PNG this year to discuss trade and investment with PNG officials. Through an exchange of letters, USTR has set the state for new periodic engagement on trade and investment issues with PNG.

The U.S. goods trade surplus with Papua New Guinea was $162.3 million in 2011, an 81.5 percent increase ($73 million) over 2010. U.S. goods exports to Papua New Guinea 2011 were $304 million, up 63.4 percent ($118 million) from 2010. U.S. exports of agricultural products to Papua New Guinea totaled $3.8 million in 2011.

The stock of U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) in Papua New Guinea was $227 million in 2011.
