Employment

At the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), we fill approximately 300 vacancies each year. Many of our vacant positions occur in the law enforcement and regulatory area. Additionally, the agency is very program-driven, so it is not uncommon to find a constant need for planners and program coordinators to fulfill our mission.

Since the DPS umbrella includes 10 divisions that focus on different areas of public safety (as well as four support divisions), the agency needs diverse subject matter experts, including, but not limited to:
  • pipeline engineers,
  • forensic scientists,
  • information technology specialists,
  • law enforcement officers,
  • homeland security and emergency management specialists,
  • fire investigators,
  • driver and vehicle regulators,
  • alcohol and gambling enforcers,
  • justice program specialists,
  • emergency communication experts and
  • traffic safety behavior specialists.
