Doctor & other health care provider services

How often is it covered?

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers medically necessary services or covered preventive tests you get from your doctor in his or her office, a hospital, a skilled nursing facility (SNF), your home, or other settings. A doctor can be a medical doctor (MD), a doctor of osteopathy (DO), or, in some cases, a dentist, podiatrist, optometrist (eye doctor), or chiropractor. Medicare also covers services provided by other health care providers, like physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, clinical social workers, physical and occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, and clinical psychologists.

Who's eligible?

All people with Medicare are covered.

Your costs in Original Medicare

You pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount, except for certain preventive services (for which you may pay nothing if the doctor or other provider accepts assignment). Medicare covers a yearly "Wellness" visit and a one-time "Welcome to Medicare" preventive visit.
