Welcome to Massacre Rocks State Park
Located on the mighty Snake River, Massacre Rocks State Park is rich in history and full of year-round recreation.
Miles of hiking trails provide access to a bounty of plant and bird species, Oregon Trail history and geologic wonders. Rock climbers enjoy numerous climbing routes A world-class disc golf course provides golfers with one of the most challenges courses in Idaho. A scenic picnic area surrounds Register Rock, where emigrant name are inscribed, creating a desert oasis for the modern traveler. Remnants of the Oregon Trail are seen easily from either end of the park.
Disc Golf at Massacre Rocks
A new disc golf course has been developed and is now open for play at Massacre Rocks State Park. 
The course is a challenging course and will offer disc golfers a much different golfing experience than the typical disc golf course that is found throughout Idaho. The course is situated in a Juniper, sagebrush area and features narrow fairways, elevation drops and rises and even has several holes that golfers will be throwing over significant ravines to get to the basket. The slogan for this new disc golf course is: “It ain't your momma’s disc golf course”.

Cabins rent for $50 per night each. The one-room cabins sleep up to five on bunk beds and futons. Cook outside on the grill-covered fire pit. The cabins are powered, heated and air conditioned. Click to reserve.
History of Massacre Rocks
Massacre Rocks derived its name from emigrant wagon party skirmish with Indians. Register Rock, located two miles from the park, is home to a huge boulder that holds the signatures of Oregon Trail emigrants who stopped for an evening of rest before continuing on their journey. Today, Register Rock is a beautiful picnic area complete with shade trees, lawn, a horseshoe pitching area, restrooms, fire pits, and barbecue grills.
The park is rich in geological history. Volcanic evidence is everywhere. The Devil's Gate Pass is all that remains of an extinct volcano. The prehistoric Bonneville Flood shaped the landscape of the area, rolling and polishing the huge boulders found throughout the park. The flood was caused when eroding waters broke through Red Rock Pass near the Idaho/Utah border. Lake Bonneville, which covered much of what is today the state of Utah, surged through the pass and along the channel of the Snake River in a few short months. For a time, the flow was four times that of the Amazon River. It was the second largest flood in the geologic history of the world.

The Idaho State Parks Passport: Your State Park Saving Option!
The Idaho State Parks Passport allows Idaho motorists to support Idaho State Parks by agreeing to pay an additional $10 in conjunction with renewing their license plates through the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and County Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Offices. The Passport sticker allows participating Idahoans unlimited daytime entry to Idaho state parks, IDPR operated recreation areas and boating access sites. The Passport will also provide nightly discounts on camping.
When you pay the additional $10 for your passport, you'll receive a sticker that will adhere to your motor vehicle. The sticker will provide unlimited access to all 30 state parks for the entire registration year.
Out-of-state guests will have a savings option too, with the purchase of an Idaho State Park Motor Vehicle Entry Fee (MVEF) Annual.

For those Idahoans who choose to participate in the program, the Idaho State Parks Passport sticker will replace the $5 per motor vehicle entry fee currently in place at state parks while also providing nightly discounts on camping.

Our out-of-state guests have savings options too! You can purchase a $40 Motor Vehicle Entry Fee (MVEF) Annual and receive access to all of Idaho's State Parks and nightly discounts on camping. MVEF Annuals can be purchased at any Idaho State Park and online.

Have you always wanted to camp outdoors, bike, fish or engage in paddle sport, but didn’t know the basics, have the proper equipment, or even know where to go? Our First Time Adventure Program brings families and the great outdoors together! We host a fun-filled, outdoor experience for first-time adventurers. Our park's knowledgeable and friendly staff will provide you with gear, show you the ropes and make sure you have fun in the process.
