The Charlotte Division of the FBI and the Hillsborough Police Department are seeking information from the public to help identify the person or persons responsible for an arson and graffiti committed at the Orange County Republican Party headquarters that occurred on Sunday, October 16, 2016. The headquarters located at 347 Ja-Max Drive sustained heavy damage inside when a Molotov cocktail type device was thrown through the front window of the building. No one was inside at the time and the fire burned itself out before spreading to any other buildings. Federal, state, and local investigators believe the crime occurred sometime between midnight and 8:54 a.m. Oct. 16, when a 911 call was made by a nearby business owner. Graffiti was also spray painted on an adjacent building.

The Hillsborough Police Department, FBI, SBI, Orange County Sheriff's Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Secret Service are working jointly on the investigation. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Hillsborough Police Department's tip line at (919) 732-3975 or FBI Charlotte at (704) 672-6100, option #2 to report suspicious activity or a federal crime.
