NCI uses contract mechanisms to procure cancer research services and other resources. Contracts are used when the principal purpose of the transaction is to acquire a specific service or end-product for the direct benefit of, or use by, the NCI. Research and development (R&D) contracts are used for projects that are undertaken in response to NCI requests for proposals (RFPs).

SBIR/STTR contracts
Small Business Innovation contract is issued once a year, normally around the fall, and has a single receipt date. Contract solicitations are accepted only if they respond directly to a research topic within the SBIR contract solicitation.

NCI also uses contract mechanisms available through NIH-wide, HHS-wide, and federal government-wide contract vehicles for some of its contracts.  For these opportunities, please check the FedBizOpps.gov website.
