About Us
Colorado’s Ecological Services takes the lead in conserving Colorado's imperiled species by fostering partnerships, employing scientific excellence, and developing a workforce of conservation leaders. As the principal Federal partner responsible for administering the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the Ecological Services carries out its responsibilities under the ESA by supporting Service priorities, which include:
- Recovery of listed species,
- Prevention of imperiled species and habitat from becoming more imperiled, and
- Protection of vulnerable trust resources.
The Colorado Ecological Services believes the achievement of these conservation priorities, will be through fostering partnerships with state and federal agencies, local governments, conservation entities, and with the Tribal and private landowners of Colorado.
We have two offices to efficiently serve our conservation partners. The Denver office works primarily on Colorado’s Eastern Slope and the Grand Junction office works primarily on the Western Slope.

Colorado is also home to the National Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center. The Center has developed a successful captive breeding program, which establishes breeding adults in captivity, while continuing to return black-footed ferrets to the wild.
