Tribal Innovation Grants (TIG)

In fall of 2014, OCSE awarded close to $210,000 to five tribal child support programs in its first set of child support grants made available exclusively to tribal programs.  The grants are part of the Tribal Child Support Innovation Grant program, intended to help tribes strengthen their family-centered services and meet their mission and goals in a sustainable way.

Tribal Innovation Grant strategies for family-centered services include:

  • Intervening early
  • Establishing and maintaining accurate child support orders
  • Promoting noncustodial parents’ positive engagement in their children’s lives
  • Increasing noncustodial parents’ employment and family economic stability
  • Reducing unmanageable child support debt
  • Improving family relationships
  • Collaborating to reduce family violence
  • Preventing the need for child support services in the first place
