Workers spent 61.0 percent of the workday standing or walking and the remaining
39.0 percent is spent sitting. Twenty-nine percent of jobs require climbing ramps
or stairs. This is the first release of Occupational Requirements Survey data.

BLS testing of the Occupational Requirements Survey included:
- Evaluating whether the National Compensation Survey (NCS) can produce estimates of sufficient quantity and quality to meet the needs of the SSA;
- Determining survey design options and developing processes, protocols, aids, and collection procedures to meet SSA data needs; and
- Providing documentation to the SSA summarizing the work performed by the BLS, conclusions drawn, and recommendations for future data collection, testing, and research.
