ARS Food Security Research |
Food security was defined at the World Food Summit of 1996 as existing "when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life". Today, almost 1 billion people around the world do not have access to a sufficient supply of nutritious and safe food. Tackling this problem to help establish global food security is important not only to hundreds of millions of hungry people, but also to the sustainable economic growth of these nations and the long-term economic prosperity of the United States. As we help countries become more food secure and raise incomes, we also expand markets for American producers. The US Government Global Food Security Strategy, 2017 - 2021, was released in September 2016. You can read the report here.
