Solar Powering America was formed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to coordinate their efforts in support of meeting the goals in the President’s Climate Action Plan. These goals include doubling U.S. renewable energy deployment between 2012 and 2020 and installing 100 megawatts of solar on federally-assisted housing. While each agency  has unique and  independent programs  that support solar deployment, Solar Powering America facilitates coordination and aims to create a central hub to share a variety of solar deployment resources from each of these agencies, including  the Energy Department’s SunShot Initiative, EPA’s Green Power Partnership, HUD’s PowerSaver mortgage program and USDA’s Rural Utility Service, among others.

The Solar Powering America website makes it simple for communities, businesses, organizations and state and local governments to both learn about and commit to choosing solar. Solar.energy.gov provides clear, nonbiased information about solar energy programs and processes, developed by these government agencies, to help organizations to either purchase or deploy solar energy. Additionally, Solar Powering America serves as a convenient hub where organizations can make commitments and track progress towards deploying solar. As solar energy has become more affordable and accessible, many large-scale electricity users are choosing solar to meet their energy needs,  investing in America’s clean and secure energy future.
