FY 2017 Monitoring

The Office of Head Start (OHS) has modified the fiscal year (FY) 2017 review schedule to provide opportunities for the Head Start community to implement the new Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). During the FY17 monitoring season, OHS will improve the Aligned Monitoring System by reducing the number of monitoring events experienced by individual grantees and finding ways to effectively monitor grantee implementation of the new HSPPS. OHS will roll out its plan for monitoring grantees under the new Performance Standards in the summer of 2017.

During this time of transition, there still are a few required monitoring events. Grantees scheduled for these events will receive notification via letter. The required events are the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS®), beginning in October 2016, and Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance (ERSEA), beginning in January 2017. We will also conduct a review of Early Head Start-Child Care (EHS-CC) Partnership grantees new to Early Head Start. The protocols for this review will be available in November 2016 and the reviews will begin in January 2017. OHS will continue to conduct follow-up and targeted reviews when necessary. Grantees are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity and focus on implementing the HSPPS during this transition.
