Tables are derived from the individual court profiles in a longer working document being used by the Court Statistics and Information Management Project to classify the caseload statistics of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The summary tables are based on information contained in 482 revised 1984 profiles for 206 State and local courts in 49 of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The data permit the identification of courts with comparable jurisdictions, from which data can be extracted and analyzed. Tables present specific data related to State trial courts, civil cases, criminal cases, traffic and other violations handled by State trial courts, and juvenile jurisdiction requirements. Time standards are given for civil, criminal, and juvenile case processing. The appendix contains prototypes for trial court jurisdiction guide profiles.
