Real average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory employees increased 0.5 percent From December 2015 to December 2016. The increase in real average hourly earnings and a 0.6-percent decrease in the average workweek resulted in a 0.1-percent decrease in real average weekly earnings over the year.

CPI up 2.1 percent over the 12 months ending December 2016
From December 2015 to December 2016, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) all items index rose 2.1 percent. Prices for energy were up 5.4 percent over the year and prices for medical care increased 4.1 percent. Since 1996, the December-to-December change in the all items index has averaged 2.2 percent, while the price change for energy and medical care averaged 3.7 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively.

Power plant operators, distributors, and dispatchers had median hourly wages of $36.38 in May 2015
In May 2015, there were over 9 million production workers employed in the United States; their median hourly wage was $15.51. Power plant operators, distributors, and dispatchers had the highest median hourly wages ($36.38) among the 50 production occupation groups.

PPI final demand index up 1.6 percent in 2016
The Producer Price Index for final demand climbed 1.6 percent in 2016, after falling 1.1 percent in 2015. The decrease in 2015 is the only December-to-December decline in the final demand index over the 2010–2016 period.

Computer and electronic product manufacturing import prices down 7.3 percent since December 2012
From December 2012 to December 2016, import prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing decreased 7.3 percent. Prices for these imports originating from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) experienced the largest percentage decline over this time period, falling 26.3 percent. Prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing imports originating from China decreased 8.1 percent.
